Tucked into the far northwest corner of Italy, beneath the looming presence of Mont Blanc—Europe’s highest peak—lies the Valle d’Aosta. The region’s thin, rocky soils create a challenging environment in which vines must struggle to survive, resulting in wines of notable concentration, purity, and character. Because the fertile valley floor is too productive for quality viticulture, the best vineyards begin on the lower slopes and climb to elevations of up to 1,200 meters above sea level.

At the heart of the region’s white wine tradition is Cave Mont Blanc de Morgex et La Salle, a cooperative founded in 1983. Representing 80 small, artisanal growers—each too small to vinify independently—the cooperative unites 18 hectares of vineyards, accounting for roughly 90% of all grapes harvested in the prime vineyard area between Morgex and La Salle. These vineyards, situated at elevations between 900 and 1,200 meters at the foot of Mont Blanc, are the highest in Europe.

Cave Mont Blanc produces wines exclusively from prié blanc, Valle d’Aosta’s only indigenous white grape. The cooperative follows a strict non-interventionist philosophy, emphasizing respect for terroir, tradition, and the natural environment. Fermentation is carried out with indigenous yeasts in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, and the wines are carefully racked without clarification or stabilization. Bottling is done to order to ensure maximum freshness.

Green apple and mountain wild flowers meet a kiss of toasty almond and evergreen lift. Dry, bright, stoney minerality.
