2018 L'Archetipo Marasco Brut Nature Puglia IGT
This wine is made in the “tank method” similar to prosecco, but with Francesco, it turns out more like a refined Pet Nat (Petillant Natural, fermented in bottle and no filtration/disgorgement). Made with the obscure Maresco variety native to Puglia, there really is no reason not to try this wine. Notes of white peach, pear, med bodied but fresh with high acid, no dosage/very dry, always minimal sulfur, ~30mg/L.
A true family affair in Castellaneta, Puglia.
Run by husband and wife team Francesco and Anna Maria Dibenedetto along with their four children, Francesco considers the family’s involvement as the only reason he can produce as much as he does. At 100,000 bottles/year, for a minimal intervention winemaker, organic+ grower, their production levels are on the high end.
From Castellaneta, Puglia, about 350m asl with mixed soils of sand, clay and even calcareous material (we are close to Matera in this zone).
Organic + (certified organic, but go beyond)
Inspired by the philosophy of Rudolph Steiner and Biodynamic principles as well as Japanese philosopher and pioneer in “do nothing” farming, Masanobu Fukuoka, Francesco has codified his own methodology called Agricoltura Sinergetica, which is a hyper focus on the vineyard ecosystem and the aliveness of the soil.
