100% Susumaniello. su-su-man-yell-o

Another native Puglian varietal, and more specifically to the Brindisi province, that is dressed to impress. The name susumaniello is dialect for somarello (donkey) and refers to how the vine “loads up” with grapes—it’s a productive varietal. Except as the vines age, the productivity drops drastically, and Puglian producers are rediscovering its potential.

Here we have a rosato version from I Pastini. I Pàstini is a small, family-run winery in the Valle d’Itria in eastern central Puglia. Founded by Gianni Carparelli and his father Donato, they grow their grapes on land their ancestors worked: a beautiful limestone plateau overlooking the Adriatic Sea that is co-planted to ancient, (multi-millennia old), olive groves. They are certified organic and use native yeasts in the cellars.
