2017 Guastaferro "Memini" Aglianico Irpinia DOC
Aglianico from the Taurasi area have been coined the “Barolo of the South”—ageable, high class wines, that are anything but rustic. Though, Taurasi producers are tired of the comparison and would like us to view their wines as unique. This Aglianico will make you rethink it all: medium bodied, dry, red cherry, graphite, rose petal, mint, pepper, smokey tea—we can’t get enough over here at Cittavino & Co.
Guastaferro is located right in the heart of the Taurasi appellation, farmed from seven and a half hectares of prime Aglianico. A young Raffaele Guastaferro took over the land and business from his father. Two and a half of these hectares consist of pre-phylloxera vines of between 175 and 200 years of age.
"Memini" comes from the Latin phrase "Remembrance" as Raffaele explains, "I hope my wine will be remembered"
