Geeky Rosati Three Pack
Looking to impress your sommelier or collector friends? or maybe you just want in on what the hype is all about...
These wines are from respected, "cult" producers in central and southern Italy:
2021 Salvo Foti e Figli 'Vinudilice' Rosato Sicilia IGT from the northern slopes of Mt. Etna. A small production field blend of Grenache, Minnella Nera, Grecanico, Minnella Bianca and other grape varieties from Contrada Nave in Bronte, Etna. The vines grow at 1200m asl and there is a mix of 100+ year old vines that make it into the blend. A savory and structured rose' that actually does best with bottle age.
2022 Tiberio Cerasuolo d'Abruzzo DOC This deeply pigmented rose' made from the Montepulciano grape will have you questioning if it is indeed a light red. The style from this area is precisely such: genre bending. Sage, cherry, rose- drink a degree or two below the fridge temp and watch how easy it goes down. Tiberio is a leading producer in Abruzzo, bridging the gap between expensive and out of reach producers like Emidio Pepe and the cheaper bulk wine that the region in known for. Anything Cristiana Tiberio puts her hand to turns to gold. We love every wine she makes.
2020 Luigi Tecce 'Calipso' Irpinia Rosato DOC Tecce pretty much grows only Aglianico. His eccentricity is apparent by his labels and choice of mythological Greek names. Funny how choices in label imagery do reference wine style and the producer personality: the wines are made traditionally with no chemical use in the vineyards nor cellar, the reds have a ferral rustic vibe- a nostalgia similar to earthy and more dense old skool Burgundy. is sourced from 85-year-old vines that look more like tree-vines, with a trunk in the middle, and numerous radiating outward shoots on what looks like bush vines on a pergola. The local name of this vine training is called raggiera avellinese or starza. This rose made from Aglianico is deep, plush, almost a hint of tannin. Try with steak, seriously.
2020 is the current release of this beastly rose'.
