2015 Salvo Foti I Vigneri “Vigna di Milo” Etna Bianco Superiore DOC 1.5L
I visited the Foti estate this year. I have known about and consumed the wines since I first touched the abyss of Italian wines. They impressed me. But then the didn't... and then, I visited Simone Foti and had an opportunity to taste the entire line up and BOOM! these wines and young men were back on my radar and now I am feverishly buying up Foti. Maybe I'm trapped in my own mind and point of view, but it seems that these wines have indeed regained momentum and here in California, they are either allocated or sell fast.
Somehow, I chanced upon a couple magnums of this Etna Superiore bottling. Magnums tend to age better- the smaller opening is a smaller surface area : wine ratio, and they tend to oxygenate less rapidly. We opened this wine at an industry Sicilian tasting event and it was the clear winner. So youthful still, but showing those (non) aromatic blossom notes, petrol, lemony acid. It blew us away.
Drink now or hang on for another 5-7 years.
