2021 Arianna Occhipinti "Il Frappato"
Frappato is one of Sicily’s most ancient grape varieties, more so than Nero d’Avola. Occhipinti elevates the Frappato grape beyond the typical fruity, floral aromas. The sub-layer of limestone and well draining sandy soils give this wine acidic backbone and depth of secondary aromas and flavors: minerality and salinity, both of which are a testament to the Vittoria terroir and Arianna’s ability to pull it into the wine. Light bodied with med+ acid, bright, fresh, mineral, just ripe strawberry, roses, cinnamon.
Arianna Occhipinti first studied wine making along with her uncle, Giusto Occhipinti, who is one of the proprietors and winemakers of the winery, COS, also in Vittoria. She approaches viticulture (organically) and winemaking in a similar manner, with little to no use of additives, such as sulfur, during the winemaking process.
