60% Primitivo, 30% Old Vine Muscat and 10% Chardonnay
This distinctive blend captivates with its seamless interplay of richness, aromatic complexity, and subtle brioche nuances.
The primitivo is from Shake Ridge Ranch in Amador County. The old vine muscat from Enz Vineyard in the Lime Kiln Valley AVA in San Benito County is considered to be some of the oldest muscat in the state at 107 years old! Both head-trained and dry-farmed, the vines are planted in limestone and decomposed granite soils. The final portion of the blend is Chardonnay from Escolle Vineyard in Monterey County. This was added to provide acidity and bring the flavors together.
Direct whole bunch press separately with a gentle champagne cycle. The wine was allowed to cold settle overnight and then racked. Primary fermentation of each lot occurred separately and then aged in barrel for 5 months. The Muscat, unlike the Primitivo, had a very short maceration on skins. After aging the wines were blended, cold-settled, and bottled for secondary fermentation. The entire process was hand bottled and disgorged to ensure the best quality of this traditional method of sparkling wine.
The Primitivo lays a robust foundation with layers of ripe blackberry, juicy plum, and a touch of warming spice. The addition of old vine Muscat introduces an alluring bouquet of floral aromas, accompanied by delicate honeyed undertones on the palate. The Chardonnay brings a vibrant acidity that elevates the blend, knitting together these diverse elements into a beautifully balanced and harmonious finish. The result is a wine of complexity and richness with an off-dry finish that lingers elegantly on the palate.
The California wine climate is shifting and while the days of big house cabs and zins are still here, they have moved aside to allow for more diversity in grape variety and winemaker. Terah’s philosophy comes from years of experience and experimentation. She focuses on lesser known CA growing areas as well as Mediterranean grape varieties. Cittavino is featuring her Italian wines which are a pure and expressive blend of CA climate, Mediterranean vibes, and Terah’s kind and discerning personality- the wines are just so precise and unique.
A native Californian with Palestinian roots, Terah refined her unique style and found her love of wine by way of food and from her travels across the globe. She started her professional career in the hospitality industry studying at the International Culinary Institute in California. She then spent time working in wine bars, a Michelin-starred restaurant, wine education, and consulting in the Bay Area.
Terah ambitiously immersed herself into the international world of wine, studying Enology and Viticulture in both Spain and France. She completed 13 harvests covering five countries. She was recently named one of Wine Enthusiasts 40 Tastemakers of 2024.
