2022 Marco de Bartoli "Pietranera" Zibibbo
The Marco de Bartoli winery is run by Marco's children, Renato, Sebastiano, and Josephine. He made a name for himself and the Marsala region, by elevating what was once considered a cheap cooking wine, to an aged, fine sipping treat. They also make some of the best Passito di Pantelleria around.
In 1989, Marco crafted the first dry whites made from Zibibbo grapes the world had ever seen. It was a bold move; traditionally this grape was harvested exclusively for dessert wine, but Marco believed in its potential as a dry wine due to the grape's complexity and fortitude. Called Pietranera (black rock) because of the mineral-rich black volcanic soils on which the grapes grow.
After a rigorous manual selection of the clusters, they are gently pressed and macerated at controlled temperature for approximately 24 hours. After the soft pressing, the must decants at low temperature for 48 hours in stainless steel tanks. Marco de Bartoli is organic in the vineyards, indigenous yeasts in the cellar, and minimal sulfur at bottling.
