2022 Assunta dell’Aquila Ciro' Rosato DOC
Rosati from Ciro' Calabria hit different. They aren't your easy quaffers on the anonymous bbq potluck table. They are savory, often with a touch of tannin, and complex. Cirotani consider the rosato their most traditional wine, and it pairs with more seriously flavored dishes, like 'Nduja, spicy sausages, Pipi e Patate, Sarde Salate...
I am excited to introduce to you Assunta Dell'Aquila, one of two female producers in the entire area. She and her brother run a winery together, but in the last few years Assunta has been producing her own wines on the side, in a more natural style. She is one of the original founding members of the Ciro' Revolution.
Assunta’s rosato (rose') follows the Ciro' tradition in that it is savory- a mix of fruits, herbs, and a salty note. The mass production wineries in the area make a rose' that fits the trend- light and quaffable. While there is nothing inherently wrong about this type of wine, it does not tell of place and grape variety. Her wine is perhaps at first unusual in comparison, but ultimately it is unique and personal. It’s the type of wine that makes you squint your eyes when you try to pinpoint all its nuance, and that’s our favorite kind of wine over here at Cittavino & Co.!
Sour red cherry, sage, salty mineral.
This wine is exclusive to Cittavino & Co.!
