since the end of the nineteenth century, the Troisi family has championed
the wines of Irpinia, a historic vine-growing area in northern Campania.
This ancient region is home to the white grape Fiano, a variety prized in
Roman times. The family’s focus on Campania’s rich history of grapes is
exceptional; winemaker Raffaele Troisi’s father Antonio was one of the
first growers to bottle a single-variety Fiano wine, while Raffaele himself
was the first to bottle a single-variety Coda di Volpe. Vadiaperti’s high-
altitude vineyards and pure volcanic soils combine for southern Italian
white wines of impeccable finesse, freshness and character.

We’ve seen a bit of a disappearance of this grape on the market, many producers favoring the more recognizable grapes and DOCGs of the area: Greco and Fiano. It’s a hard one to find, though just 10 years ago that did not seem to be the case. Things change fast…

The vines sit at 415 m above sea level, facing south. The specific zones are Vertecchia, in Pietradefusi and Torre le Nocelle

Hand-harvested. Full-cluster press; fermented on indigenous
yeasts in temperature-controlled tanks. Aged in tank on fine lees for up to
two years

Trained in chemistry, Raffaele brings a technical eye to the winery’s production, though he is also deeply committed to tradition. An admixture of intellect and intuition, Raffaele’s approach is about precision and subtle expression, producing wines of deep texture and territorial expression, unobstructed by ornament.
