Continuing the traditions of his forefathers, Alessio Di Majo produces wine from grapes grown in the 123 hectare vineyard of the ancient fief of Marquises Norante di Santa Cristina, in Campomarino, along the Adriatic coast in the region of Molise.

The Di Majo family is committed to quality wine production. We hear that a lot, but for one of the largest producers in a rather unknown part of Italy like Molise, the choice to reduce production is not an easy one. In addition, Alessio Di Majo has maintained a spirit of experimentation. They propagate the old vines on the estate via cuttings, as well as specific clonal selection base on the vines' adaptability of the specific locale of Molise.

This 80% Montepulciano 20% Aglianico blend is based on the native grapes of Abruzzo and Campania, both regions share a border with Molise. Molise is Italy's youngest region, formed in 1963, it was actually a part of Abruzzo. So it's no surprise, nor fair really, to say a grape like Montepulciano doesn't belong to Molise. Furthermore, the border the region shares with Campania is along the Apeninnes, which is the zone known for it's Aglianico production.

October harvest from clay soils about 100m asl. 1 mo maceration on the skins, large wood barrel aging. This wine is full, has a touch of a tannic grip, black cherry, licorice... it would go over well with Cab Sauv drinkers.
