2016 'A Vita Ciro' Rosso Riserva
A wine that will have you wondering where Ciro' has been your whole life. There are few Ciro' Rosso DOC wines that will compare to 'A Vita's as they have managed to make an almost unrecognizable Calabrian wine worthy to stand next to its Nebbiolo counterparts in the North of Italy. Refined tannin, ripe red cherry, leather, licorice. Try with hard cheeses, red meats, sausages, red sauce ragu'. A great wine from an obscure Italian wine region. Open it with friends, teach 'em something new!
The Riserva is 100% Gaglioppo from the vineyard Muzzunetto, the oldest vines of the estate, planted in 1968, facing north. The grapes were harvested in the first week of October. Fermentation was spontaneous with an extended maceration of one month, after which the free-run juice is drained (not pressed). Aged one year in a 2000L Slavonian oak botte. It undergoes a wide filtration and is then bottled-aged until four years after the harvest. 3,000 bottles made.
